Monday — Institute of East Asian Studies Conference Room, 2223 Fulton Street , Sixth Floor

On Monday, the class will meet in the conference room of the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, located at 2223 Fulton Street, Sixth Floor. Telephone (510) 642-2809. The institute is located near the southwest corner of campus facing the intersection of Kittredge and Fulton Streets in Berkeley. Please see enclosed campus map.

Tuesday — Bancroft Library, 2121 Allston Way

On Tuesday, our first session will be held at the Bancroft Library located at 2121 Allston Way (see map).

We will then walk back to the East Asian Studies Conference Room. For the last session of the day, we will walk up to the Hearst Museum on the corner of Bancroft and College.


From Interstate 80

Exit at the University Avenue off-ramp in Berkeley. Take University Avenue east to Oxford Street and turn right. Oxford becomes Fulton Street in a couple of blocks. 2223 Fulton Street is a six-story beige building on the east (left) side of the street.

From Highways 24/13

Exit 13 at Tunnel Road in Berkeley. Continue on Tunnel Road as it becomes Ashby. Turn right at Telegraph and drive approximately one mile north to Bancroft Way and turn left. The 2223 Fulton Street Building is at the northeast corner of the Bancroft and Fulton intersection (right side).

From Downtown Berkeley BART Station

Walk south down Shattuck Avenue to Kittredge Street (one or two blocks depending on which station exit you leave from) and turn left. Walk one block to Fulton Street and you will be facing the 2223 Fulton Street Building.

Parking at UC Berkeley

Enclosed in this packet is a blue parking placard which allows you to purchase a $7 parking permit from the yellow machines in either the Bancroft/Fulton Lot, the Ellsworth Lot, the Recreational Sports Facility Garage or the Ana Head West Lot (see map). To use the machine, lift the bill acceptor flap and insert payment. Then press the green button and a receipt will be issued.

Both the $7 parking permit receipt and the placard must be prominently displayed on your dashboard.

The yellow machine accepts $5 and $1 bills and coins. It does not give change.

If you cannot get the parking permit machine to work, please let us know as soon as you arrive and a staff member will assist you. Please note: Parking and Transportation will not rescind parking tickets received because of improper use of the yellow machines.

Wednesday — Peralta Hacienda Historical Site,
2465 34th Avenue, Oakland

From 580 Eastbound
Take Fruitvale exit off 580 (going towards Hayward )
1. Proceed in same direction as exit ramp on Harold, go about six blocks on Harold
2. Right on Coolidge, go about 1/2 mile
3. Left on Hyde, go one block
4. Left on 34th, which ends at the park

From 580 Westbound

Take Coolidge Exit, Turn Left at the light off the freeway onto Coolidge Ave. Then follow steps 2 through 4 above.

From 880
Take Fruitvale exit, go up Fruitvale, about 3/4 mile on Fruitvale, crossing International Boulevard
1. Right on Foothill, go one block
2. Left on Coolidge, go up a few blocks. Pass Patten College on left
3. Right on Hyde, go one block
4. Left on 34th, which ends at the park

From Fruitvale BART Station (~1 mile)

  • Go Southeast on E. 12th St. towards 35th.
  • Turn left onto 35th Ave.
  • Turn left onto Foothill Blvd.
  • Turn right onto 34th Ave.
  • Continue until you reach 2465 34th Ave.
